Pahalgam
Pahalgam, meaning “Village of Shepherds,” is a jewel of the Kashmir Valley nestled at 2,130 metres where the Lidder River rushes cold and clear through pine-forested mountains. Once a simple shepherd’s settlement, it has grown into one of Kashmir’s most beloved destinations and it is easy to see why. Lush meadows, towering pine and fir forests, glacial streams, and snow-capped peaks surround it on all sides, creating a landscape of almost unreasonable beauty. It serves as the base camp for the sacred Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage, and its surrounding meadows Baisaran, Aru, and Chandanwari are among the most scenic high-altitude valleys in all of Kashmir, perfect for trekking, horse riding, and simply breathing in the pure mountain air.
